Skills & Concepts:
* AWARENESS: the objectives of this course are to review, extend and expand the concepts and skills developed in Seventh grade. Through an essentially inductive approach, students will gain an understanding of how the language is structured and how they can use this knowledge to express their own needs and talk about the world around them.
* THE FOUR AREAS OF LANGUAGE: listening, speaking, reading, writing; development strategies for polishing these skills and becoming more effective language learners
* VOCABULARY: prayers, adjectives, numbers, team sports, minor illnesses, emotions, body parts, air
travel, summer & winter weather activities and sports
* GRAMMAR: definite and indefinite articles, singular and plural forms of adjectives, singular and plural forms of nouns, possessive adjectives,
* VERBS: singular& plural form of verbs –ar, -er, -ir, Tener, ser & estar, Stem-changing verbs
* CULTURE: Introduction to the Spanish-speaking world: geography, Hispanic influence in the U.S.A., famous Spanish speakers, celebrations, history, cultural products such as music, art, literature, food, etc.
Classes will be conducted in Spanish/English format and students will be encouraged to use Spanish to the fullest extent possible.
