Plan de estudio de séptimo grado/Seventh grade syllabus
Syllabus for Seventh Grade Spanish
Academic Year 2020 -2021
Teacher: Mrs Evelyn Cortez
Course Description
Seventh grade Spanish reinforces the skills developed such as reading, writing, speaking, listening and study the vocabulary and grammatical structures of the Spanish language. We will also learn about the products, practices and perspectives of Spanish speakers, in order to foster cultural awareness and sensitivity. Mainly, the goal is to begin communicating in the language and being excited about it!
EXPECTATIONS
Spanish is often highly interesting, sometimes funny. Using common sense, “body language,” and other visual cues is the student’s task in every class. Taking risks is important; volunteering to act our vocabulary is an important part of participation. It is equally important to actively pay attention when someone else is doing the action. The expectation is that we will all work hard and have fun!!
MATERIALS
Students need their iPad each and every day. Vocabulary quizzes will be based on their vocabulary list. When absences occur it will be up to each student to catch up on recording these words. We will be using the textbook/workbook ¿Cómo te va? from Glencoe. Each student maintains a “green” folder with all homework and assignments that have been graded. However, in order to make the course more interesting I use many supplemental materials, some teacher generated and some from other sources. I also use music, artwork, and games to address students’ different learning styles.
HOMEWORK-HOW YOU CAN HELP!!!
Homework in Spanish is easy and fun! All it takes is a little routine and discipline. Weekly vocabulary requires daily practice. I recommend a minimum of three times a week for a minimum of 5 minutes each time. Easy? Easy! Do it! Whether or not I assign written work. This is far more effective than studying for an hour once a week, and it is particularly important with block scheduling. There is always a vocabulary list to work on, and I encourage the students to speak Spanish to you, to their siblings, and even to your pets! Any kind of practice is helpful. Even if you do not speak Spanish, ask him or her to say a few words at dinner. Encourage her/him to identify objects, food, clothing, and animals, and to make simple sentences. If you do speak Spanish, engage your child as much as he/she will allow.
EXPECTED LEARNING
1. Students will be able to understand all forms of greetings in Spanish and will be able to use them.
2. Using his/her understanding of the Spanish alphabet, s/he will be able to read Spanish words and approximate the correct spelling.
3. Count to 100.
4. Know the colors.
5. Understand the concept of gender in Spanish grammar, masculine and feminine.
6. Express likes and dislikes.
7. Students will have a basic vocabulary covering many action words, body, clothing, family, locations in the neighborhood, and describing words.
8. Students will be able to change action words depending on who is doing the action (I, he/she, they).
9. Students will be exposed to common weather conditions, know the days of the week, months, seasons, and be able to tell time to the hour and half hour.
10. Recognize the basic subject pronouns, yo, tú, él, ella, ustedes.
QUIZZES
I like frequent quizzes as they encourage students to study regularly and they give me an opportunity to do continuous assessment. These assessments will prepare them for similar tests in high school. It is the responsibility of the student to come to me if she/he has missed a quiz, and to make it up within one week.
